last day of class

How time flies!  December is here, the semester is winding up, and the New Year is just around the corner.  It's hard to remember that awkward feeling I had during my first week of the semester; a subtle combination of excitement, confusion and panic, not yet knowing a word of Japanese.  Yet, for all of the challenge and the grueling study of the course,;) there was still something every week brought joy and laughter.  In short, it was well worth it.  What I learned over the course of a few months is far beyond what I had expected at the beginning of the semester.  I could not have guessed that I would write letters in Japanese, be able to express myself, or just go out and do simple stuff like shopping or asking directions.  What seems at a glance as basic and simple is really quite essential foundation that we've covered.  Yes, we are far from our goals, our expressions are still limited, and there is much study on the paths before us.  Yet, I am grateful to have a section of the language under my belt.  Thank you sensei, whose industrious effort and encouragement were instrumental to our progress, and whose pedagogy was just as valuable as the knowledge we've gained.  And thanks to all of my classmates.  I think that together your feedback, practice, and atmosphere all helped me tremendously...I'm looking forward to seeing you next time!

せんしゅまつに Bostonへ かえり ました。てんきは あまり よくなかったです。そこは ニューヨータ より さむかったです。しゅくだい たくさん あり ましたから、としょかんで べきょうしました。

20ねんごのわたし

 わたしは 　いま二ューヨークに います。 ここのせいかつは 　にぎやかですが、とてもいそがしいです。 ときとぎ　ちょっと つかれます。　にじゅうねんごの　わたしは かぞくと　カナダのケベックに います。　あたらしいせいかつは 　あまりにぎやか じゃありませんが、 たのしいです。

 しずかなせいかつが 　ほしいですから、 カナダへ いつも いきたいです。　わたしは やまが いちばん すきです。 ケベックに　 たかいやまと きれいなかわが　たくさん あります。　そこのてんきも いいです。 なつは あまりあつ くないです。そしてあきは すずしいです。 そこで ひとが すくないですが、 とてもしんせつです。　それから、わたしは フランスごが すきですから、 ケベックへ 　フランスごのべんきょうに　いきます。

 せいかつはシンプルですが、 たのしいです。 かぞくは さんにんです。 おっとと こどもが　います。 うちは　やまのなかに　 あります。 ちいさいですが、 きれいです。 わたしは けんきゅうしゃです。　まいしゅう げつようびから　きんようびまで だいがくで　 はたらきます。 おっとも　 だいがくです。　ぶつりがくを おしえます。 しゅうまつに　 やすみます。 こどもと きれいなこうえんを 　さんぽします。 そして　かわのちかくで　 つりを します。　ふゆやすみと なつやすみに アジアへ かえります。 りょうしんに あいたいですから。

せんしゆうまつに street marketへ いきました。  いろいろのやさいと くだものがありました。  やさいは よかったです。  そして やすかったです。  くだものも よかったです, でも, やすくなかったです。  いいてんきじゃ ありませんでしたが、ひとが おおたっかです。  やさいが いちばん すきですから、たくさん かいました。

Welcome to my blog. My name is summer and I’m from southwest China. I’m taking my first Japanese language course this semester, but my interest in Japanese culture goes back a long way. As a child I liked the Japanese actresses Komaki Kurihara, Yoko Takashi and Yamaguchi Momoe and used to go to the theatre to watch their movies. I also liked to read Japanese detective stories and novels. I’m learning Japanese because my interest in Japan and Japanese literature and poetry. I hope that one day I will be able to read Murasaki Shikibu and Kawabata Yasunari in Japanese.

I’ve never studied the language before, so class is fast-paced and a little challenging, with a lot of new vocabulary for me to memorize and recite. But I like the learning of the language so far, and it’s exciting to be able to say some Japanese out loud.

I’ll be posting regularly, so feel free to stop by again!
